 The sequel no-one would have expected. Yes, five years after the original post comes a compendium of that very same band. One of those wishlist items I knew I had to buy when it popped up, it's now here for the enjoyment of a relative few. The title track of the tape I posted all those brief few years back is featured here, with the b-side absent. Still, a ton to chew into here. That very same collage heavy industrio-noise rock (not quite Godflesh) is there, with some surprising experimental passages here and there.

Drone - The Fat Controller

I've said my piece or three [both in public and in private] about this excellent compact disc by this particular New Zealander group, so much so that I'm reduced to generic description. But that doesn't quite fit this album, too many tiny little sublime moments that compare favorably (yes, I'll compare em again) to contemporaries the Dead C. I swear I know a little bit more about this scene post the Dunedin sonic phenomena but I can't quite place it with Dadamah's aura. Listening and deciding is always better than reading and putting it off, really.

The 1985 - Obscured By Pink Clouds

Before 1975, there was 1985.

Not having heard this in awhile and hard of total memory (wild year, that), I can only give vague past impressions. But I can also speak about the group itself, though I have little info on them despite being "from" the same place.

I suppose it is a rather alien document amongst the scuzzbucket-pigfukkit noize rockers, the standard abrasive punx interspersed with bizarre minimal-electro synth motifs (Recalling at least a tiny bit at points the brilliant Brainiac) make this a worthwhile get. But that's just me. The CD version added all that stuff after the fact for all I know.

The (rightful [if I cared about "sequencing"]) closer on the vinyl platter, "Shooting Blanks" is a noise rock masterpiece in every sense for all I care... Looking now, I made a mistake in the above blurb: what was tacked on was the nameless little snippets after the seminal ender. Although I still do like em fine, it does lessen the impact of hearing the cops raid the band's recording studio/garage.

Tuned Out - (The Epics) Apart From The Contamination

I admit, I bought this because it was one of the few tapes filed under Experimental on eBay that wasn't Zooropa or whatever. Another factor was that it's cheap, and that I have no idea what it is. Well, what it is is noizy hardcore punx. Of course, a large factor of the noise can be attributed to recording quality, but noise is noise. Experiment!

A bit of a hail mary, but I'm sure if all else is equal these guys were/are from Allentown. And at least one of them went on to play in the Atown Sluts. Do with that what you will. To digress, I was originally thinking I'd either put this on my varied detritus blog or send a little birdie mail to Terminal Escape since this seems more their bag... Yet here we are.

El-Ron - Are Dangdut Kings

I don't know what Dangdut is or what royalty that pertains to, or whether or not the band's name is a pastiche of some SF author, but this is good stuff. On my RYM review I compared to the sound presented here to Liquorball, Monoshock, Crawlspace, Fuzzhead, so on and so forth. So, if you like psych noise jam with a dash of krautsploitation, have at this. 

What do I mean by "Krautsploitation"? Well, it's a takeoff from the first track off a LP by a sideproject of some of the above bands called Sternklang. I like the feel of it, and describes this pretty well: taking after der Fatherland's ancestral motorik klangs. Though this a bit more noisier than usual.

Flophouse / Research Defense Squad - 10th Anniversary Celebration Release 1983-1993 / The Percodan Years

The monstrosity above, Porky Chedwick's Monster as it were, is my attempt to manually stitch together the hopeless fragments of the scan of this particular obscurity's "front" sleeve. An inevitably aleatoric operation due to the nature of the thin, textured paper as well as the bullet holes that are riddled across said paper. The back cover stitched fine, for whatever reason.

OK, enuff vanity for just a moment. The real trashy treasure here is the music itself. And that's why we're all gathered here together right, dear readers and crawlers? Although I do tend to overrate stuff that is hopelessly unknown (especially so if I pay a pretty penny for it), I must say this is well worth my high appraisal. As I might just get into in a second, this is an outgrowth of the 80s Chicago noise-collage microscene. Prior to bucking up and throwing down a few decades of cash for this, I had been previously familiar with the underside of the split, that is the Research Defense Squad. Featured here though abridged, I had heard their Pisshole tape when the noise-arch was still live. It's, uh, interesting.

Based off that a posteriori knowledge, that is their sound mostly being based on collage and noisy industrial rumblings, I was quite surprised by some of the songs featured on their share of the record sleeve. Though still industrial, it has a much more melodic flavor. Which is always welcome. Though you still do get to hear that collagenoise aspect I mentioned earlier, it still is interesting to hear something different than what you had previously expected. 

Flophouse are something of another story altogether. I had no knowledge of them before I bought this, and what sparse info I could find at the time didn't really paint a full picture. Now having heard them on this record, I would love to see if I can get more of their stuff. Psyched out industrial noise rock is the name of the game.

Splitting the tracks for this whole operation was a bit difficult, and there may have been some mistakes here and there. It should also be noted that this is a pretty dirty record with some scratches so I tried to clean it both physically and digitally as best as I could. Might do a rerip eventually, only God knows when I'll get around to that.

Another older number from my collection, relatively speaking due to this blog being somewhat of a "collector's diary" so to speak. Relistening to this now, I find myself thinking that I may have initially underrated this single sided behemoth of brevity. There's a lot of cool stuff going on for a whole 25 or so minutes made up of cut up collages containing disparate performances laced with acid and submerged in noisy entropy. Though I am phoning this one in somewhat, having realized they actually have this up at their Bandcamp...... So, if you like what you hear, I'd imagine the logical course of action would be to lay down 5 bones for a much clearer version. I mean, that's what I would do. Florida is the reason, after all.

A chance encounter I've found. Browsing the internet leads to strange discoveries at times, and on a fateful minute I found a post from the ancient days of 2013 talking about my blog. It had been posted by David Bernabo, a member of this odd little project. I had previously posted the first album served here back in those days, and I had not realized that I never reposted it after revitalizing this digital warehouse. So here we are.

I got both of these from a local library which supplied many a release from around these parts. Not a lot really sprung an interest from me, but these are exceptions. I want to say I first of this band from the Blastitude webzine, but apparently it was not where I had first encountered them. I think I might have first seen it be perchance on the fallen fakejazz superhighway xerox, though I never got much into that one so who knows. Anywho, this is an interesting admixture of noisy indie rawk with some experimental smatterings across the (maybe a bit unnecessary) 2 disc set. The other album is a collection of free improvs and maybe some field recordings. Maybe. I have not heard these in awhile and just now dug them up from the last remains of my old HDD. So enjoy.

Smegma - The Smell Remains The Same (Singles 90-95)

What an artist/album title combo, buy on sight stuff right here. Smegma is a passing complexion around these spheres of experimentation, a household noise. I'm not very well heard when it comes to their stuff, being mostly relegated to their compilation contributions. I was quite surprised to hear a somewhat traditional song structure wise when I dropped the needle into its bearings. I was expecting free improv noise from the word go, not psych noise rock. I guess that's why they were singles, obviously destined to be a radio hit.

But really, a lot of great stuff to be heard here, from the aforementioned stylings above, to collage, to industrial and so on. And a bunch of combinations of such.

Various Artists - Cruel Beasts

Something special for your Sunday. I'd like to think this is rare, but for all I know this could be shelf fodder in its homeland. This is an early release on the very cool Maboroshi no Sekai label which produced similar albums of this sonic ilk throughout its continued existence. The sounds presented here are of a diverse type all deriving from that all encompassing "experimental" umbrella. Some tracks branch off from the textures sprouted forth from bands such as the Boredoms and the Ruins, the spectrum of noisy mayhem and technically proficient chaos.

One may recognize some of the names here, with Japanese underground luminaries like Otomo Yoshihide, Koichi Makigami, and Seiichi Yamamoto making an appearance and also one of my favorite groups from that very subterranean artspace, Harpy. In fact, Harpy's percussionist itoken is the one who chose these artists for this tape. You may recognize him from my Zuppa di Pesce posts awhile back, I really respect his work. Some bands included are avant-proggers Soh Band and psych-noisters Children Coup D'Etat, who turn in some impressive performances. A band I don't recognize is Piranezi, jazzy noise rock for busted eardrums. Lots of unheard tracks here, don't miss it.

Hello, here's something I've had for a little while and never bothered to upload for whatever reason. This here is a companion to the LowLife zine which apparently existed and RRR pressed for a coupla times... Too much indeh rawk here for me, don't care for it. There is some good avant moments, however. Murray Reams and Paul Hoskin play together on 'ere, and the mostly unknown band called Cake inverts their more popular and similarly named contemporary with some exp. folk dirges. Tinnitus is cool, too, and befitting of its name. My memory isn't very good, so maybe I imagined what this whole record sounded like in lieu of listening to it again. Well...

It also came with this booklet, presumably the zine in question. It's pretty cool, contains some reviews about now acclaimed cult klassics like Spiderland (a pretty ambivalent review for that one, all told). Some illustrations, too! Pretty... Didn't scan it, though.

Hachiman Mae - 八幡前その弐 (Hachiman Mae 2)

Here we are again, the start of the end. The start of the end of Hachiman-Mae's extant tapography (at least to my knowledge). Their sound hasn't changed much from the last tape: noisy folk mannerisms in a lofi environment, short and harshly sweet in its brevitous use of a 60 minute cassettes A side. 

As one can surmise from the imagery brought forth by me, the packaging is much more ambitious compared to the last soiree. More colourful, decorated, and a bitch to scan. A fold out enclosure held together by a golden string holds within another enclosure whose space is occupied by the emerging soundform contained within yet another enclosure, this being the cartridge.

I got this rarity off Discogs dot com from the man behind NAPALMED, a Czech noise projection which collaborated with these guys through split releases, comp appearances back in those near old times. He tells me that he hasn't spoken with members of the group for quite awhile, and that Hosomi didn't have email. Well, there goes my plan of any sort of reissue/retrospective that would shake the modern world to its post-ironic core.

Pineal Ventana - Stagnancy Is Revolting

Perhaps out of character, have a post-HC record. Saved by its noisy demeanor, however. I may be losing my edge, I almost bought a minimal techno record and very well may have posted it here had I done it (it was rather good, though. Probably should have picked it up). A digression, as they call it, but I appeal to it here.

 Back to the little slab o' vinilo presented, just some scorching noise-industrial sized punx for the discernible of disturbances. A track that it isn't listed actually persists here, which I have made the distinction of in the rip, just for you. There's some nice vinyl messabouts to change it up from the average noisepunck charade, whether its physical or aural I don't really know.
